Welcome, Ji-Young, first Asian-American muppet. Link to See us Coming Together The Asian-American community has long-awaited a Sesame Street puppet that could be a friend and role-model to our segment of the American population. Welcome, Ji-Young , whose name means wise & courageous , but also can mean " sesame ". Some of us learned how to speak English, the ABCs & 123s via Sesame Street. We learned to assimilate and learn cultural norms and how to communicate. Having a Korean-American (or any Asian muppet) on the show, has been a long-awaited welcome. Not only do we finally have some representation, but we can start to normalize Asian culture instead of purely Asian Pop Culture-the Korean pop culture that is highly televised, made-for-media and far more foreign than what is normal every day Asian American life.
